How Bose aviation headsets are put to the test.
The Bose research and development team runs over 145 separate tests to ensure that every ProFlight Series 2 and A30 Aviation Headset can endure the challenging operating environments of cockpits around the world.
Learn about some of the tests below, and see how our aviation headsets handle the toughest conditions.
Drop Tests
Our headsets are subjected to drop tests from six feet (1.83 meters) after withstanding temperatures at or above 131F (55C) for multiple hours. This ensures the headset is protected against impact, even in extreme conditions.
Cable Tests
Bose aviation headset cables endure tens of thousands of bends, equivalent to many years of use. Our own Bose standard is even more demanding than the TSO requirement to ensure your cable and assembly is durable and robust.
Weather Tests
Conditions can change rapidly, so pilots need a headset that’s ready for anything. Bose headsets must endure a multitude of environmental factors, including sand, humidity, condensation, blowing rain, thermal cycles, salt fog and more.
Crush Tests
Each headset has to endure compression tests and mechanical shocks, surviving both while maintaining normal functionality. Headsets are even weight tested inside their cases to make sure they’re fit for the rigors of travel.
Vibration Table Tests
Headsets are subjected to vibratory forces across all frequency ranges to ensure they survive without loss of functionality. This helps to simulate the movement of the cockpit in normal conditions as well as extreme turbulence.
Hardware Durability Tests
Every headset has buttons that must withstand extended use. We make sure buttons and other hardware features can stand up to repeated pressure as well as exposure to skin oils.
UV Tests
Accelerated solar radiation tests are performed to ensure components are durable and will not degrade in integrity or appearance, providing a consistent experience and aesthetic over the lifetime of the product.
Extended Wear Tests
Our standards require that all components withstand tens of thousands of flexes, tugs and pulls. This simulates many years of headset use and ensures that each aviation headset will perform consistently, even in the toughest conditions.
